Montgomery County is giving out free LGBTQ+ pride decals for display on business or nonprofit storefronts.
The decals were created through a design contest last summer called Show Your Pride! The winning designers are Bethesda resident Vinnie Yankowski in the youth category and former Silver Spring resident David Spengeler in the adult category.
The decals contain QR codes and a link to MontgomeryCountyPride.org, where information about local LGBTQ+ events and resources can be found. The 4″x 3″ window decals can be used outdoors or indoors and are double-sided.
“These decals are a symbol of who we are as a community—everyone is welcome here, and there is no place for hate,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “I encourage businesses to order them for their places of business and display them proudly.”
According to a recent survey of LGBTQIA+ Montgomery County residents, most respondents feel safe and welcome in the community, but 40 percent have experienced some kind of discrimination in the past year.
Individuals can pick up at decal during Pride in the Plaza on June 30th in Veterans Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring.
To obtain a decal, visit montgomerycountypride.org/moco-pride-decals. Groups or networks representing multiple businesses or tenants should contact Amena Johnson, Montgomery County’s LGBTQ+ liaison, at Amena.Johnson@MontgomeryCountyMD.gov to request a larger drop-off.
